SFI Student/Early Stage Researcher Bursary.

Anatomists on the Edge have been fortunate in securing funding from Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) to offer a limited number of travel bursaries to the value of €400 for attendance and participation at this conference. These bursaries will be awarded to those involved in activities related to the remit of SFI outlined below.

These bursaries are aimed at encouraging wider participation at the conference and the development of future multidisciplinary collaborations. They are therefore offered only to people who are not already members of  The Anatomical Society or the American Association of Anatomists.

SFI (http://www.sfi.ie/about/) is the national foundation for investment in scientific and engineering research1. Their remit (http://www.sfi.ie/about/what-we-do/) is to fund oriented basic and applied research in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) which promote and assist the development and competitiveness of industry, enterprise and employment in Ireland2. Their funding is predominantly directed towards 14 strategic priority areas of opportunity for Ireland recommended by the National Research Prioritisation (NRP) Steering Group report3.  The scientific focus of Anatomists on the Edge focuses on 4 of these priority areas, namely;

Therapeutics: Synthesis, Formulation, Processing and Drug Delivery

Connected Health and Independent Living

Medical Devices


SFI also promotes and supports the study of, education in and engagement with STEM, and an awareness and understanding of the value of STEM to society and to the growth of the economy in particular2.

Please note payments will be made after the event on completing an Expense Form and once all original receipts have been produced. These must be submitted within 4 weeks of the conference closing.


*For student applications, a signed letter detailing reasons for attending the conference is also required from the applicant’s supervisor or head of department.
